CASI Ottawa Branch Joint Meeting with AIAA Niagara Frontier Section

Chris Gainor - Avro's Engineers and the Space Race

    2026.06.16 | 19h00

    Meeting Details

Long before Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen flew to the moon on Artemis II with three American astronauts, Canadians worked with NASA to help put Apollo astronauts on the surface of the moon.

The story begins in 1959 when the Canadian government cancelled the CF-105 Avro Arrow program, and a new American agency called NASA hired some of the top engineers from Avro to help get astronauts into space in the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.  Please join the AIAA Niagara Frontier Section this month when Chris Gainor, author of Arrows to the Moon: Avro’s Engineers and the Space Race, will tell the story of these people from Avro Canada and other Canadian contributions to the Apollo program.

Chris Gainor is a historian specializing in space exploration who has written six books, starting with the story of the Avro Canada engineers at NASA and most recently the official NASA history of the Hubble Space Telescope (which you can download from NASA as a PDF or e-Book here).

Pre-registration is required. Use the link below to register and receive your invitation to attend the Zoom webinar on the 16th.
