Nomination for Advancement to Member

A Member shall have acquired a professional standing in the practice of the art, science or engineering relating to aeronautics, astronautics or associated technologies. Graduation from a university or other institution recognized by the Council is the usual first step in establishing this standing. Alternatively, recognized standing gained through professional-quality work experience of not less than 6 years duration may be acceptable.

  • Applications for advancement in grade from Junior Member to Member shall include the names of two references familiar with the academic qualifications and/or work of the applicant.
  • Applications for advancement in grade from Associate Members to Member shall include the names of two references familiar with the work and qualifications of the applicant. One reference shall be a member of the Institute.

Nomination for Advancement to Associate Fellow

An Associate Fellow shall have been engaged for not less than ten years in the practice of research, engineering, manufacturing, planning, administration, maintenance, operations or other work relating to aeronautics, astronautics, associated technologies and their applications; and shall have been in charge of important work and made significant contributions in his or her field of endeavor.

Two members of the Institute at member level or higher, one of whom must be at the level of Associate Fellow, Fellow, Honourary Fellow or Councillor, may nominate for advancement in grade to Associate Fellow a member who, in their opinion, meets the requirement above, provided that the permission of the nominee has been obtained.

Nomination for Advancement to Fellow

Transfer from the grade of Associate Fellow to the grade of Fellow is by peer nomination only and direct applications shall not be submitted.
