CASI Free Flight Competition 2012The 2012 CASI Free Flight Competition will be held at Gananoque Airport on the weekend of May 14-15. The rules and registration form are here, and please see the first page for deadlines. CASI will supply a radio-controlled dethermalizer unit. This is a convenient and low-cost way to comply with the requirement that your aircraft can be brought down reliably in case an emergency situation develops. It is supplied in return for a deposit of $80 that is refunded when you return the unit in good condition. If you’d prefer to keep it, that’s OK too and we’ll use your deposit to replace it. Here are a few videos of past competitions – for some of you they will bring back memories!
It’s a lot of fun and also a very educational activity. In fact one of the teams has had their participation qualify as a for-credit activity! And there is also the lure of cash: the first-, second- and third-place teams receive prizes of $500, $300 and $100 respectively. If your University hasn’t put together a team yet, please do it soon.
