In 2012 CASI bid successfully for the right to host the 2014 International Astronautical Congress in Toronto. Thirty months later we were ready to receive the global space community at the beautiful Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Congress and related activities spanned ten days and included events by the International Academy of Astronautics, the International Institute for Space Law, the Space Generation Advisory Council, along with many bilateral and multilateral meetings.
More than 3,500 participants from over 64 different countries attended the Congress. The technical program consisted of 18 parallel technical sessions with over 1,800 oral presentations and about 500 interactive poster presentations. The 100,000 square foot Lockheed Martin Exhibit Hall accommodated about 170 exhibits on behalf of industry, government and academic organizations from around the world. Amongst the many fascinating exhibits was a 1:1 full-scale model of the Orion spacecraft.
IAC 2014 social media reach was equally impressive with a weekly total reach of 11,360 on Facebook and over 18.9 million on Twitter! Thank you to all who helped in sharing the news and event. The top sites for the week were Twitter, Nasa.gov and Instagram.
It was a fantastic week of meetings, knowledge sharing and networking with a great line up of events, social programs and informative technical sessions involving industry leaders and heads of space agencies. The video on this page provides a glimpse of the people, sights and sounds of IAC 2014.
We are deeply grateful to all our sponsors and exhibitors for the vital role they played in the success of IAC 2014. Very special thanks to Lockheed Martin that took on the unprecedented role of Industry Anchor Sponsor for IAC 2014.
CASI is always looking for opportunities to bring the world to our doorstep for the benefit of all our members, and of the broader Canadian aerospace community. If you have any ideas along these lines, please contact us at email@example.com or call 613-591-8787.
